Take a trip to Venice
Its heart is the Basilica of San MARCO. The same name was attributed to the place in front of it at the age of the first Basilica construction in the 832. The gilts mosaics that cover the front and the vault, the decorations splendor, the ornaments pomp, the sculptures wealth, makes it a temple rich of historical memories and artistic beauties. In the Basilica, harmoniously married, are found various architectonic styles: Byzantine, Romanico, Gothic, Rinascimentale making a fantastic, varied, harmonious, balanced architecture.
Looking at the right of the facade, beyond the little square, having the same name, situated between the Ducale Palace and the Bookcase, where, from the right, the Channel of the Giudecca and the Canal Grande converge, is the San Marco basin, and faced on the other side of it is the San Giorgio island. Prestigious centre of the DOGE, and of the higher magistracies of the venetian Republic, the Ducale Palace conserve, quite unchanged, after nearly four centuries, the original aspect. It is the more huge civil office of the city. Its current aspect was saved, after the fire of the 1577, because of the opposition of the greater architects of the time, at the proposal of the Palladio which was that proposing a neo-classic architectonic style.
The preferred Ant. Da Ponte designer gave again to the Palace, in less than a year its original aspect. The architectonic conception originality, the chromatic harmony of the employed materials is come to an wonderfully agreement with the lagoon atmosphere, giving to them a nearly unreal aspect, deeply evocative, touching in the more deep feelings, when the waters goes up until covering the square of the city, sick because of this plague.
